Careers Programme
Rudheath Senior Academy is committed to providing our students with a programme of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) for all students in years 7-11. The programme the school delivers makes a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.
Our careers programme runs from Year 7 to Year 11 and prepares students well for life after they leave the school. It has been designed to align with the eight Gatsby Benchmarks which have been recognised by the government as outlining the requirements of an excellent careers programme.
Students have many encounters with employers and learn about the different careers and the various routes into these careers. It helps students to find the careers that suit them and prepare them to follow their desired path. Students learn about the different work sectors and are taught to challenge the various stereotypes and discrimination that exists in the world of work. Students learn how to take responsibility for their own career by planning for the future. They learn how to create an effective CV and learn useful skills such as developing a professional and successful interview technique. The programme supports pupils through each of the transitions they face such as choosing Year 9 options and deciding what to do after Year 11 and after Year 13. Students have an experience of the workplace in Year 10.

A Stable Careers Programme
Rudheath Senior Academy provides high quality careers advice and guidance, to support our high achieving and ambitious students. It prepares young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life, thereby ensuring that, wherever possible, all young people leave education with employment, or go into further education or training.
Students in Year 7 – Year 11 are entitled to:
- find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point.
- hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options evenings, assemblies and group discussions and taster events.
- understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
Gatsby benchmarks:
The eight Gatsby Benchmarks are based on best national and international research and define all the elements of an excellent careers programme. The Gatsby Benchmarks have now been put at the heart of the Careers Strategy, with an expectation that all schools will begin working toward the Benchmarks.

Global School Award
Rudheath Senior Academy has been recognised by the Global School Alliance for its outstanding commitment to providing students with a global perspective and has been awarded the prestigious Bronze Level Global School Award.
The Global School Awards are a supportive and motivational framework that guides and supports schools through their international work. With three certified levels of recognition, the Awards programme takes schools from introducing international work to the curriculum, to embedding it within the school’s culture and wider ethos.

Schools are supported to following an accessible methodology to encourage the development of links with partner schools around the world, enhance the curriculum and prepare students for life as global citizens.
Schools working on the programme produce an action plan for integrating international activities into the classroom, and then produce evidence to show that they have carried out these activities. The school is guided and advised throughout the process and schools are awarded the Global School Award if they meet the standard.
