Could you join the team at Rudheath Senior Academy as a Parent Governor?
What is involved?
The Governing Body are responsible and accountable to the Academy Trust for the educational performance and effective and efficient use of resources of their school as set out within the Trust’s Scheme of Delegation.
As a team Governors are expected to question, challenge, and support the academy’s leadership to achieve our mission; to open our children’s eyes to the wonderful world of possibilities. Through qualities of excellence and kindness.
To do this, we have a small team of volunteers and would love to welcome a new parent governor to join us. The Full Governing Body meets 3 times per year (in the evening). Their remit is to provide strategic overview and look at the academic results, review the School Improvement Plan, review the accounts, and sign off the budgets and forecasts.
There are two sub-committees that meet 3 times per year covering Curriculum and Finance and Resources. As a governor you are supported to develop your own skills and contribute to one of the subcommittees.
How much time does it take?
It is a voluntary role and so it is up to you how much time you commit, as a minimum we would require a commitment from you to prepare and attend the full governing body meetings (once a term) and a subcommittee meeting (every other term) both meetings totalling around 15 hours a year. Then to complete appropriate training to share your skills with the team or develop new ones, this can be as much as you are able to access but as a minimum includes safeguarding training.
What skills are needed?
You don’t need to have experience in education, we need a broad range of skills including business and commercial, health and safety, property, data interpretation, finance, HR, legal, process and governance. The key quality is a drive to work with the team to open the world of possibilities for the children at Rudheath Senior Academy. Induction and support with the role will be provided.
