Rudheath Senior Academy pupils have been busy helping to celebrate a big milestone for Griffiths Park, which is turning 25 this year.
To mark the occasion, pupils built 25 bird boxes which will soon be installed throughout the park. The idea came from Rudheath Parish Councillor Olwyn Dean, who funded the project and invited the Academy to be involved.
Griffiths Park opened in 2000 after the transformation of a former lime waste site. Since then, it has become a much-loved space for the community, offering a football pitch, play area, walking trails and nature sculptures.
At a special ceremony on Monday 29th September, pupils presented the bird boxes to Cllr Dean in front of local residents, councillors and members of the Friends of Griffiths Park group.
Headteacher Christine Williams said:
“We are very proud of our pupils for playing a part in this special project. Griffiths Park is at the heart of our community, and it’s wonderful to see our students contributing to its future.”
During the event, Cllr Dean also presented a Community Award to local volunteer Martin Scrowther, in recognition of his dedication to keeping the park clean and welcoming.
