Year 9 options Letter

Dear Year 9 Parent/Carer, please see below the welcome letter and KS4 Options booklet. We look forward to receiving your responses.

3 April 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

KS4 Options

Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent academy closure, the scheduled Year 9 Options Evening will not be able to take place. Choosing courses to study at KS4 remains a key point in your child’s education, therefore we would like to work with you remotely to complete the options process.

To achieve this, we have created a KS4 options booklet which provides an overview for the options process and details for the courses available to study. This document can be found on the school website and on RSA social media. Teachers are also available to answer any questions in the KS4 Options Team in Microsoft Teams or can be e-mailed through the contacts available in the booklet.

Once your child has made their choice, they must complete an online survey to select and submit their choices. The deadline for responses is Wednesday 22 April 2020.

Making Choices

All KS4 students will continue to take English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Combined Science and Core PE.  This leaves 4 option choices to be made; one subject is to be chosen from each of the four option blocks.  Students should consider a broad and balanced curriculum, considering both GCSE’s and BTEC qualifications across a range of subjects.  Please note that separate Sciences offer 3 GCSE’s instead of the compulsory 2 and will include single GCSE awards in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Although we will endeavour to match as many choices as possible, this will depend on staffing, numbers and timetabling.  Therefore we advise all students to make a backup choice as part of the survey. We look forward to receiving your child’s choices.

Yours sincerely
