Rudheath is part of a national network of schools called PiXL (Partners in Excellence). PiXL (Partners in Excellence) is a growing partnership of schools whose membership includes in the region of 1500 secondary schools, 550 post-16 providers and over 200 Primary Schools. It emerged from the London Challenge in 2007 and has grown from 50 schools at its inception to present numbers.
PIXL provides our RSA with a collaboration of school leaders; access to vibrant, purposeful conferences and networks of people complemented by online resources, training opportunities and development programmes to support the promotion of excellence for students in the school.
The PIXL Network supports our determination to do all we can to help improve life chances for young people through improved educational achievement and enhanced self-esteem in order to connect them to worthy progression routes in the next stage of their education. As part of the PiXL programme, we have a moral focus on supporting the promotion of excellence for students, to better their life chances through improved educational achievement and to always do its utmost for students, whatever their ability to bring them a better and brighter future. PiXL allows students to make progress in life and career skills through the PiXL Edge award by developing key life attributes.
Below you will find information about PiXL strategy that contributes to our wider personal development programme.
Them and US
PiXL has 3Cs – Currency, Character and Culture and it is Culture that is at the centre of our personal development strategy. Them and Us is an exciting new project focusing on changing the culture of our communities. It is about helping young people understand the importance of demonstrating kindness, showing respect and living without harm not just to those people who are like them but to people who are not like them: How we relate to people who don’t think the same way as us, or believe the same things, is a crucial skill that needs to be taught.
Through the Them and Us scheme, we will deliver a wide range of lessons, assemblies, extended reading material and guest speakers to reinforce the values with of excellence and kindness across our community. This programme will be delivered through drop down days, in assemblies and through tutor time. We hope that the impact will be great, that students will want to engage in acts of kindness and will see the difference they can make to their school communities and their local area.
The Edge Award
At Rudheath Senior Academy we want to do everything we can to support our students learning and personal growth. It is for this reason that we have launched LORIC with all students across all year groups. LORIC is designed to help students to develop the skills desired by employers and that are necessary for future success.
PiXL Edge helps students to develop the LORIC attributes:
The Edge – is the accreditation of the LORIC attributes. It allows students to develop these skills experientially and provides them with an evidenced record of their achievements.
PiXL Edge has three levels of challenge, Apprentice, Graduate and Masters. It is designed so that students start on the Apprentice level in Year 7 with most completing this by the end of Year 8. In Year 9 and 10 students will then work towards the Graduate level. Some students will go even further and in Years 11 to complete the Masters level.
