I thought it would be helpful to give you an update on what the academy is doing to ensure we continue to provide a calm and safe environment for the students to learn in during the current situation with Coronavirus. As well as continuing to promote with staff and students the need to regularly wash their hands, our catering staff have had extra training around ensuring that they clean areas in the kitchen, use disposable gloves during service periods and regularly clean the cashless touch machines used by the students. You will also notice that during this period we will regularly remind students of the need to wash their hands and we will operate a ‘no handshake’ policy for all staff, students and visitors. We are currently taking advice regarding external trips and visits.
As an academy we fully intend to remain open for the foreseeable and will only close in extreme circumstances or if directed. Should there be an instruction to close the academy for any period, we have spoken to the staff around setting and uploading work onto the academy’s learning platform which the students are able to access from home. I recommend that students test that they are able to log in to the learning platform if this is something they have yet to do. If there are problems logging in, please ask them to notify their form tutor. I hope that there will not be a need for this but felt that we should be prepared if it becomes necessary. We will work hard to ensure that Year 11 are able to complete their examinations with minimal or no disruption. We will take advice from OFQUAL, the DfE and Public Heath England in the event of any closures/disruption to the examination series, and will communicate regularly with parents, staff and students as we receive information to ensure all are informed.

You will no doubt have questions about what happens next and over the coming weeks, please be assured that the academy is taking every precaution to ensure that students learning will be as uninterrupted as possible and to maintain a calm and purposeful environment for your child to feel safe and learn. Yours sincerely
Mr L Barber
