Key Stage 4 Pathways


Expectations are high for our Key Stage 4 students at The Rudheath Senior Academy. We believe every student can achieve and succeed, whatever their ability. Students are well supported and our outstanding pastoral system links very closely to the curriculum.

At Key Stage 4, all students follow a programme of compulsory and optional subjects.

The compulsory subjects are; English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science, the further Sciences are also available for students to choose. In addition students study a programme of PSHCE which includes Relationship and Sex Education, British Values and careers education.

  • Science (Combined) GCSE
  • Physical Education (Core) GCSE

Pupils then choose either ONE subject from each block:

Option Block 1 Subject Qualification:

  • Separate Sciences GCSE
  • Geography GCSE
  • Performing Arts (Dance) BTEC
  • Sport BTEC

Option Block 2 Subject Qualification:

  • History GCSE
  • Drama GCSE
  • Business Studies GCSE
  • Music GCSE

Option Block 3 Subject Qualification:

  • History GCSE
  • Art GCSE
  • Food & Nutrition GCSE

Option Block 4 Subject Qualification:

  • Geography GCSE
  • Spanish GCSE
  • Construction & the Built Environment BTEC
  • Health & Social Care BTEC
  • Digital Information Technology BTEC

* Students opting for Music, Dance or PE GCSE must commit to attendance at weekly extra-curricular activities to support the practical elements of these courses.

The learning of all pupils is complemented by a range of extra-curricular clubs, trips, visits and guest speakers that help enhance and develop the curriculum. This encourages the development of a wide range of valuable skills that mean our pupils are ready for life after Year 11.
