Rudheath Senior Academy Headteacher’s Newsletter
Friday 31 January 2020
It’s been a wonderful week at Rudheath Senior with so much going on to make me proud of my team!
On Monday, all learners in year 11 started guitar lessons with ‘Music for Life’ They will be having 6 weeks, after which they will be putting on a performance for parents.
I am a great supporter of music and musical education. There is so much scientific evidence to show that it develops the areas of the brain which focus on language and reasoning; develops self-confidence; helps you to relax and unwind; improves academic performance and develops discipline as learning an instrument requires dedication and practice. #resilience #scholarship #ambition
Well done to Miss Pim for securing the funding for this project from Rudheath and Witton Together – it’s great to have the community support!
The Hummingbird project continues, if you have a child in year 7 do talk to them about what they are learning to build resilience and growth mind set.
Mr Wright and Mrs Morrell arranged for Elevate Education to come in on Tuesday to run their study skills programmes designed to achieve behavioural change amongst learners so that they can maximise their learning potential.
I often say to young people that I never expect them to “Be THE best” but I do always expect them to “Be THEIR best”. We hope this workshop will support our year 11 to prepare for their GCSEs which start in just 14 school weeks’ time.
Chester University Visit
A group of Year 9 went on a Higher Horizons trip to Chester University on Thursday to find out more about studying and careers in zoology, law and psychology #scholarship.
Product Design Weekend Workshops
Mr Kershaw will be running product design workshops again this Saturday for year 11 learners, with Mrs Leftwick supporting. If your child is doing GCSE Product Design, please make sure that they arrive at the academy by 9:15am on Saturday mornings until half term to ensure that their products are completed and to a high quality.
Attendance at these sessions will count towards the achievement log.
Beauty and the Beast Rehearsals
Rehearsals started on Thursday for Beauty and the Beast – I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to see so many performers and backstage crew singing and dancing and preparing to put on the performance of the year! I have never seen so many children involved in a school production and my heart just sang with pride as I watched them from the balcony near my office #ProudToBeRudheath
Christopher Tower Poetry Competition
Any budding poets in year 11 are invited to take part in this competition. The first prize is £3000! See Miss Heaton in E3 for more information.
Fitness Testing for Parents and Students
Mr Russell is holding a fitness test workshop for parents and students in the sports hall from 3:30-4:15pm on Tuesday 4 February. If you would like to learn about the tests and perhaps try them, bring your trainers and have a go!
Another weekend is here and it’s off to Guide camp with my daughter for me! I hope you have fun!
