Rudheath Senior Academy Headteacher’s Newsletter
Friday 18 October 2019
There has been so much going on this week and as always our learners have been doing us proud.
Clubs and Enrichment
More and more learners are taking the opportunity to make the most of our lunchtime and after school clubs. Please see our website https://northwestacademiestrust.co.uk//rudheath/curriculum/extra-curricular/ and encourage your child to do something they love or to try something new!
Some of our year 10 have been busy baking and have raised £44 to kick off their fundraising effort for the homeless this Christmas. Thanks to all who supported them: it makes me so proud when young people take positive action to make the world we live in a better place.
Pumpkin Carving Contest
Mr Lambert has launched the historical figures pumpkin carving competition. We’re really looking forward to seeing those pumpkins on display. Go on………you know you want to! Deadline Thursday 24 October – all entries to Mr Lambert in Hu1. I’m off to buy my pumpkin this weekend.
Leeds Royal Armouries
Learners from years 7, 8 and 9 went to Leeds Armoury today. If you follow @rsahistory you will have seen them having a great time today – dressing up and having fun while learning more about our rich history from medieval battles to the world wars. A big thank you to Mr Lambert for his organisation and to Miss L Heaton and Mrs Brookes for their brilliant company!
Lille Christmas Markets
There are still a few places left on the Lille Christmas Market trip – for more information log on to eezeetrip or go to Mrs Rooney in ML2 for a letter.
Free School Meals
If you are receiving one of the benefits listed below you may be able to claim free school meals. This entitlement is equivalent to £2.30 a day to spend in the school canteen where our food is made fresh every day and sandwiches and wraps are made to order. In addition to the meal your child can have, the school can claim additional funding which can help towards equipment and resources which can make a substantial difference to the children here
You will qualify if you are receiving one of the following benefits.
- Income Support
- Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Child Tax Credit but not Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,190
- The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
- Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
If you qualify, the majority of claims are dealt with the same day and your entitlement will start the day after. A letter of entitlement will be issued to you and we will notify the school.
Year 6 Application Deadline and Open Mornings
Another reminder that the deadline for year 6 applications to secondary schools is the 31st October. All year 6 children must apply for a place whether they live in the catchment area or have siblings in the school. The link for applications is
